Residents 3000 had out first meeting re the proposed Metro Tunnel Project on 2 May 2018.  Here we are 8 years later and the project is nearing full completion.  Every year of the long project Residents 3000 has been updated on progress with interesting presentations from the project builders.

We are fortunate to welcome speakers from Melbourne’s Big Build and the Cross Yarra Partnership where we can hear about the finalisation of the project, further works and some insight into daily operations, maintenance and safety measures. 

This is our first Forum 3000 event for the year to be held at the Kelvin Club on Thursday, 5 February 2026 at 6pm with 6:30pm start.

And thank you to the guest speakers who answered questions from the floor and provided a detailed update on progress as they near the final stages of the project, with expected completion later this year.

We hope to provide further updates from the Metro Tunnel Project team throughout the year as we look forward to the opening of Town Hall Station and State Library Station within the CBD, later this year.

Residents 3000 are pleased to invite you to our first Forum 3000 of the year, which will be held at the Kelvin Club, 14-30 Melbourne Place (off Russell Street) on Thursday, 6 February 2025, at 6:00pm.

With train and station testing now well underway and station construction to be completed this year, the Metro Tunnel is due to open later in 2025, creating a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne / Pakenham in the south-east, with bigger and more modern trains, and five new stations.

We look forward to this annual presentation from the Metro Tunnel Project team, as they take us on a captivating underground excavation and construction journey, and the project nears completion this year.

With construction on the Town Hall Station and State Library Station within the CBD continuing over the coming months, the presentation will include time for questions and interaction with our guest speakers.

This event is free for our current membership subscribers. Non-members or non-renewing members will be asked to contribute $5 towards venue costs. New annual membership subscriptions and renewals are welcome at $30 per person, for the calendar year, valid until the end of this year.
