The Melbourne City Council are organising a FREE Community Organisation Training Program in 2014.
First up this year is a focus on some of the common legal issues associated with running a not-for-profit community organisation – topics and dates below:
- Setting up and running a successful community organisation – Thursday 20 February 2014, from 9.30am to 12.30pm
- Safety, risk and insurance for community organisations –Wednesday 5 March 2014, from 9.30am to 12.30pm
- Legal issues in managing volunteers –Thursday 20 March 2014, from 9.30am to 12.30pm
You may be on a board or committee, you might be thinking of forming an organisation or you might be engaging volunteers – all these things require you to be aware of a range of issues.
The sessions are aimed at small to medium sized not-for-profit organisations, you could be from an arts organisation, a sports club, service agency, self help group, a seniors club and similar. If you don’t have a formal organisation set up yet – these sessions might help you decide if you should form an organisation or develop a partnership with another organisation to act as your auspice.
The sessions will be presented by member law firms and/or Not-for-profit Law lawyers from Justice Connect. Part of what they do is deliver access to justice through pro bono legal services, to people experiencing disadvantage and the community organisations that support them.
