Thank you to everyone who attended the Queen Victoria Market redevelopment update at our third Forum 3000 event for the year held at the Kelvin Club on Thursday, 3 April 2025.

The Melbourne City Council has embarked upon an extensive mixed-use redevelopment of the heritage-listed Queen Victoria Market and the local surrounding precinct.

Matt Elliot, CEO, Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd, and Rick Kwasek, General Manager Infrastructure and Amenity, City of Melbourne, provided a presentation regarding the ongoing renewal works.

Mary-Lou Howie of Friends of Queen Victoria Market Inc., and fresh produce traders, Fahna Ammett and Frank Fontana, each presented an overview of their observations regarding the redevelopment and explained their perspectives of the situation, how they are being affected by the ongoing works and trading conditions at the market, including the increased charges to traders and their recent strikes.

Dean Robertson, Director City Safety Security and Amenity, City of Melbourne provided an update on the various safety issues being dealt with on a day-to-day basis around the market precinct.

The session was informative, with the various perspectives and there was much interest from residents and long-time market customers in the informative presentations during the question-and-answer session.

Representatives from Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd and the City of Melbourne renewal team have very kindly offered to provide our resident community with updates about the ongoing renewal works.

We will also hear brief updates from several of the long-time traders who will be familiar to many of us who frequent their fresh produce and general merchandise businesses at our wonderful local market.

This event will offer the usual informative presentations, a question and answer session, and lively debate on how our communities and neighbourhoods are evolving and adapting in response to redevelopments.

Registration opens from 6:00pm; and guest presentations start at 6:30pm sharp.
Drinks are available from The Kelvin Club bar; with finger food served afterwards.

The event is free for our current membership subscribers. New and renewing annual membership subscriptions for the calendar year are welcome at $30 per person, and valid until the end of the year.

Non-members or non-renewing members are asked to contribute $5 towards venue costs.
