Citation was in 2004 – how slow can the responsible authorities be?The Australian govt.’s World Heritage website makes it very clear that plans are required.We also await approval of the World Heritage Conservation Management Plan which is still in draft form. Any ideas of how we can rattle the cage?
The visits to the Exhibition Building were unfortunately cancelled on 22 April. The Museum said that they did not realise a quilt exhibition would be on that day. My understanding is that they do offer tours of the Exhibition Building at about 2 pm, but there is almost no advertising of this and I am not certain how many people actually do a tour..
Hi John – The REB event was on 21st April (yesterday).There were tours organised as part of the event after the guest speakers and refreshments, which was about 3pm, but not for the general public.Pity you missed the event, but more importantly “Yes” there is very little publicity regarding regular tours. In fact students’ curriculum visits to the Museum should include a visit to the REB. As community we hope to bring more attention to this wonderful building its history and its surrounds.Sydney Opera House received Unesco WH citation after the REB – both community and govt. were very quick to present a World Heritage Management Plan which is an essential part of the citation, but good old “us” that is Heritage Victoria, got together a Plan 7 years after the event and it’s still sitting on our tardy Minister for Planning’s desk!
