For our regular Forum 3000 event this month, Thursday 7th March 2019, Residents 3000 are delighted to invite you to meet your newly elected representatives – Ellen Sandell and Fiona Patten.
Ellen Sandell, MP, State Member for Melbourne
Ellen is the first Greens MP elected to the lower house of Victorian Parliament. She holds a dual Bachelors of Arts/Science Degree from the University of Melbourne, majoring in genetics, linguistics and Spanish.
Ellen began her career as a researcher with the CSIRO. She then worked on climate change policy for former Labor premier John Brumby’s Department of Premier and Cabinet, and later became the chief executive of a national climate change non-profit organisation, the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.
Ellen is the Victorian Greens spokesperson for climate change and energy, science and innovation, and treasury and finance. As a parliamentarian, Ellen priorities have been to continue to push for action on climate change, better public transport, a caring society and a liveable Melbourne.
Fiona Patten, MLA, State Member for the Northern Metropolitan Regions.
Fiona is the founder and leader of the Reason Party, formerly the Sex Party. She was elected in 2014 to Victoria’s legislative council. Among her many achievements in her first term, she initiated Australia’s largest public enquiry into drug law reform.
Patten established the Australian Sex Party in 2009 to focus on personal freedoms after deep frustration with stagnation on censorship, freedom, marriage equality and drug law reform. On 22 August 2017, it was announced that the Australian Sex Party would be changing its name to the Reason Party.
Before entering politics, Patten was the CEO of Australia’s national adult industry association, Eros Association. She championed sexual rights and health movements for more than 20 years, particularly on HIV/AIDS, after initially starting out as a small businesses owner with her own fashion label.
