Cycling to the city is about to get even easier, with the City of Melbourne and the Department of Transport providing a bike pod in City Square.
Facilities include two self-contained showers, a basin, mirror, and changing space, with clothes hooks and a bench seat. The bike pod is secure, heated and hygienic.
Located in the City Square Car Park, 202 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, it was jointly opened by the State Member for Melbourne, the Hon. Bronwyn Pike, and the Lord Mayor Robert Doyle on Wednesday 11 November at 9.15 am.

Cycling is to be encouraged (and of course public transport) – BUT when will the police and the Council come to grips with these issues:-
* about 50% of bikers (outside the “going to work” period) do NOT wear helmets
* many bikers park their bikes ANYWHERE. They lock them on street tree protectors and the trees themselves. Some even just dump their bikes on the footpath. The City should consider that one street car park could accomodate about 12 bike parking stands. Let’s do it!
* parking inspectors should fine those who park bikes which impede the footpath, especially where footpaths are narrow.
* on Sunday a cyclist was seen cycling along a tram line in Swanston Street – with his dog running beside him (unleashed)!
* the Council and Bicycle Victoria should be more active in encouraging RESPONSIBLE cycling (and the Greens could help!)
