AGM 2025 – Update

This is just a quick post to update our members and subscribers that at our recent AGM held on Thursday, 2 October 2025, twelve new committee members were elected.  Our committee got down to work straight away, meeting on Saturday 11th October 2025.  

There were quite a number of speakers at our AGM that told us of their ambitions for the coming 12 months.  These were discussed and other ideas were raised to ensure our members continue to be supported – informed – connected in a vibrant, interesting group of central city residents.  Each of the new committee spoke about their background and their aspirations for the association in the months ahead.

Unfortunately, we are still experiencing lack of co-operation in handing over the stolen digital assets of the association.  Particularly secretarial functions and our social media – Facebook, Instagram and X.  

If you see a modified logo and the use of our domain residents3000.org.au on Instagram, please do not add any “likes”.  This instance of Instagram is illegal and nothing published on that pirated site is authored with your committee’s authority.  We are continuing to pursue the return of these assets with post haste and will report when all is back to normal.

In the meantime, please find the list of our talented and enthusiastic 2025/26 committee who are promising a great year for members and hopefully for a large number of new members to partake in some exciting events and activities.

Age-Friendly Neighbourhoods

“Empowering Seniors Voices” Project

We are undertaking an “Empowering Seniors Voices” Project in the City North Precinct area in collaboration with City of Melbourne. We are also trying to recruit seniors for the walks and discussion in the project (see the flyer).

This project responds to the rapid growth of the ageing population in the City North Precinct, where many older residents face social isolation, digital exclusion, and limited access to age-friendly infrastructure.

By promoting discussions and enabling older adults to use digital tools to document local challenges, co-analyse findings, and advocate for change, this project builds community capacity, strengthens multicultural and intergenerational trust, and contributes to a civic data infrastructure that reflects lived experiences.

We have walks planned for many dates in September (9,12, 16,19,23, 24) and we would love for older adults (65+) who either live in the area or attend workshops in the area, to participate in them. We would especially appreciate those with diverse cultural backgrounds and those with accessibility issues. The City of Melbourne will be helping encourage participation by providing a $50 voucher to those who sign up for it.

The first stage of this work is a discovery walk, a participatory activity where older adults walk slowly for about 40 minutes, with stops along the way, to capture issues and opportunities in their local environment. Using smartphones with a specific very easy to use app (designed by Stanford University), participants can take photos of things that support or hinder healthy ageing—for example, footpaths and crossings, public seating, green spaces, community facilities, places of gathering or isolation, places that facilitate or hinder access for culturally-diverse communities, or signage. These images then become prompts for group reflection and storytelling to support healthier, more inclusive communities.

EastEnders – Lord Mayor, Nick Reece

EastEnders are pleased to invite you to their next meeting which will be held in the Leichardt Room at 27-29 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, on Monday 18 August 2025, at 10:00am.

While the Lord Mayor is no stranger to EastEnders, this is the first time that he will be attending in his new capacity. We know we can look forward to an informative and entertaining speech with no shortage of challenging questions from our group.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be up close and personal to our Lord Mayor and raise any matter that you would like him to discuss.

  • The Lord Mayor asserts that pedestrian etiquette in Melbourne has reached new lows. He suggests that we “return order to our footpaths while also celebrating our walking economy. Stay calm. Be kind. Keep left. Or we may need the strong arm of the law to fix things”.
  • The City of Melbourne’s Community Engagement Policy is being reviewed and inputs are invited. Share your thoughts by 10 September 2025 and/or let the Lord Mayor know at EastEnders.

Waste Collector Permit Fee implementation

The City of Melbourne are introducing a new annual permit fee for trucks that collect waste from businesses in our CBD. Have your say and help inform its implementation by Friday 12 September 2025.

They’ve also heard from the community that trucks collecting waste from our CBD can have environmental, amenity, and noise impacts. They also want to hear from residents, businesses, and visitors to the CBD about their experience with waste collection from businesses in the CBD.

Insights from waste collectors, businesses, residents, and visitors will help inform their plan to implement the new waste collector fees in a coordinated way that balances the needs of everyone in our community.
